Letting Go of Fear: Stepping Into the Life God Intended
Fear has a way of gripping us when we least expect it.
It whispers worst-case scenarios in the middle of the night. It plays the “what if” game in our minds until we’re paralyzed with indecision. It sneaks in when we’re about to take a bold step forward, starting something new, ending something toxic, speaking truth, showing love, or trusting God in the unknown.
But here’s the truth: Fear is not from God.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
- 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear keeps us small. It convinces us to shrink back instead of step up. It tells us we’re not ready, not worthy, not enough. But God’s Word tells a different story, a story where we are chosen, equipped, empowered, and called to walk in courage.
Letting go of fear doesn’t mean we’ll never feel it. It means we stop obeying it.
We start by recognizing fear’s voice for what it is… a liar. Then we drown that voice out by tuning into the One who holds our future in His hands. Letting go of fear is choosing faith over anxiety, trust over control, action over paralysis.
Fear says, “You can’t.”
God says, “I’m with you.”
Fear says, “It’s too much.”
God says, “My grace is enough.”
Fear says, “What if you fail?”
God says, “Even if you do, I will never leave you.”
When we release our grip on fear, we make room for peace. We make room for joy. We make room for God to move in ways we couldn’t imagine while clinging to control.
So today, maybe letting go of fear looks like:
- Saying yes to that calling you’ve been pushing aside.
- Ending the unhealthy relationship that’s been draining your spirit.
- Speaking your truth even if your voice shakes.
- Trusting God with your finances, your family, your future.
It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.
And remember: courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s moving forward with God despite it.
“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
- Deuteronomy 31:6
You were not created to live in fear. You were created to live in freedom.
